6.8.2026: A quick primer for June’s primaries

Happy Pride Month! We support and stand for all folks who identify as LGBTQIA+, and we recognize that their lives are more difficult under this administration’s hateful rule.

This June 6th, we networked with Broomfield One Joy to host a table at Pride Fest at Aerostat Park in Westminster. We gave out lots of fun buttons, flyers on upcoming events, shared the word about voter registration, and met a lot of lovely people.

Also, primaries are this month, so it is truly time to buckle down and learn about the candidates running. We especially have our eyes on the race for the House of Representatives' 8th District race, because that candidate will have the all-important task of unseating Trump’s troll this November. Today, 6/8: Primary ballots are sent to everyone, and ballot boxes open, also.

• If you don’t receive your ballot by 6/12, contact your county election office. Voting ends 6/30. See this link for more important primary dates. 

6/11, 1 - 230 PM, virtual: Community Not Cage’s MELT ICE Series: Disability Justice is Immigrant Justice! - signup

• This webinar will explore how disability and immigration justice are connected and discuss ways to include disability justice in efforts to end detention. 

6/13, 9:30AM – 3:30PM, Federal Heights: Canvassing with the Trust Brigade on Saturdays - signup - last one!

• To canvas, take one of their canvassing trainings on Wednesdays at 7PM.

6/14, 12 - 4 PM, Colorado Capitol: Flag & Mutual Aid Day

•  Indivisible Westminster will have a table with our great protest t-shirts that never go out of style.  It’s a day of mutual aid so please bring any household items, clothing and non-perishable food for Rooted & Flow (link), music, food, and activities for children and other fun stuff. No march or protest at this event ~ just a day of fun. See photo below.

7/4: We Hold These Truths: A Community Reading of the Declaration of Independence - link for more info

•  Hear Ye, Hear Ye, All Liberty Seekers: Indivisible Westminster invites YOU to join us in a widespread reading of The Declaration of Independence on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, to reclaim and celebrate OUR Democracy. Either at a rally (like the one pictured below), or at a party.

• If you feel moved to, you can record the reading and send it to us by replying to this email or through our Discord. Check out a sample example in this clip.

Starting with This Pride Month, Support LGBTQIA+ Communities

Although society has made some advances in welcoming people identifying as LGBTQIA+, it is still a struggle for them to live openly, made worse with the current regime attacking them.

Some stats on LGBT+ youth, from an APA study reported in March 2026:

• 47% of LGBT+ youth experienced suicidal thoughts, risen slightly.

• However, care-seeking has doubled, from 32% to 64%.

• Almost a quarter of them had been threatened with conversion thereapy in the last year.

Why does the LGBT+ community experience mental health challenges?

• Stigma and unfair treatment - like being prevented from joining the military

• Harassment or violence - like the Springs shooting of Club Q, or Jax Gratton in our own backyard, who was missing for 2 months. Not to mention restricting trans youths from sports, requiring extreme violations of privacy.

• Rejection and isolation

How can we support this community?

• Use someone's chosen name and pronouns.

• Watch out for and fight against bullying.

• Support and create welcoming, safe spaces.

Support Our Immigrants by Fighting Anti-Immigration Lobbying

There is an increase in immigrant suicides inside detention centers, reflecting staff who ignored signs of distress, delayed mental health treatment and lack of monitoring of at-risk detainees. 

Logan Davis wrote an excellent article about the public agencies who used taxpayer money to hire lobbyists to lobby against the pro-immigrant legislation at the State Capitol this year. If you live in Colorado Springs, Arvada, Adams County, Mesa County, Boulder County, Jefferson County, El Paso County, Weld County, Thornton, Centennial or if the Aurora School District is in your community, we urge you to join me to send emails or call the elected officials in these public agencies and let them know how unhappy you are that they chose to use your money to lobby against the bills that you and we were all supporting.

Statewide

• Governor: Indivisible Colorado endorses Phil Weiser for governor.

• US Senator: Indivisible and Indivisible Colorado endorses Julie Gonzales for the US Senate.

• Attorney General

• Secretary of State

• State Treasurer

Local Congressional Districts (CD)

CD-8, House Representative - High Alert. The seat is currently filled by Gabe Evans, a Trump sycophant, and we need a strong contender who will fight for all Coloradans. This election is pivotal and close to home, as CD8 includes  Adams, Weld, and parts of Larimer Counties (including Thornton, Greeley, Commerce City, Brighton, North Glenn and parts of Westminster). Candidates. Join us this year to protest outside Evans’ office every Friday. Let’s say “GOODBYE, GABE!" once and for all.

CD-7, House Representative: Now held by Democrat Brittany Pettersen. While not pro-Trump, we need to hold our politicians to account always. Represents Jefferson, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Park, Lake, Chaffee and parts of Fremont and Custer counties. 

CD-6, House Representative: Held by Democrat Jason Crow. Again, he's not pro-Trump, but we need to hold our politicians accountable. Represents parts of Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties including the towns of Centennial and Aurora and slices of Thornton and Highland Ranch.
