A Reminder to Be Safe, Kind, and Respectful Out There
With another detention center in Colorado we need to be aware of the actions going on in our communities.
A big shout out to those of you who participated in the various rallies—on Sunday to honor Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and on Wednesday at Hudson to protest what is the conversion of the Hudson Correctional Facility to the Big Horn Immigrant Detention Facility. There were an estimated 80 people outside Hudson Town Hall and additional people inside giving testimony. Here are reports about the protest and meeting.
Below, you can find additional resources to help us in our ongoing quest to recognize the difference in cultures. This document describes various cultural characteristics of white supremacy that can be a barrier when we work with people of different values and cultures.
We urge you to read and learn from this. You will notice that there are numerous antidotes provided: ways to counteract the white supremacist behavior, things like developing a culture of appreciation, make sure to plan to meet goals of diversity and inclusion, understand the link between defensiveness and fear, understand and reinforce that discomfort is the root of growth and learning - and many more.
