Touching Grass: The Wisest Insult
Online, a retort has become popular: “Go touch grass”. This is often said condescendingly, but there is a lot of wisdom hidden in this double-edged suggestion. Getting outside provides so many benefits, and it doesn’t necessarily take a lot of time to reap them.
Benefits of getting outside:
Living in urban areas can make it difficult to get outside, and getting to the mountains every weekend is time-consuming, especially when there’s so much to do here. Taking time outside regularly, however you can, will improve your wellbeing immensely. 5 minutes is helpful; logging 20-90 minutes weekly is great; and 2 hours a week has shown to be the most helpful. One great example is the BoulderBolder event we just did - outside, in community, even though it’s in an urban space.
Ideas to get outside:
With the kindest of thoughts in mind, go touch some grass, Westies.

Help Needed: Accompaniment and Food Delivery Needs - spread the word!
In the Denver metro area, the Interfaith Immigration Network (IIN) has two ongoing programs: one that provides food for immigrant families, and the other which provides assistance to families who have been impacted by detention of a family member (financial assistance and help connecting to other resources).
For both of these, IIN is looking for volunteers to work directly with immigrants and also for financial assistance. For more information, please contact Rob Habiger at rchabiger@gmail.com. |
